Mexican trader Antonio Gomez is an inspiring example of resilience and growth in the trading world. After passing the Chilli Pepper 50K Challenge with SpiceProp in October 2024, Antonio became a funded trader and has since continued to refine his strategy, scale his account, and enjoy multiple payouts -- including €1314 and €1070. In this exclusive interview, Antonio shares his journey, insights, and some practical tips that helped him along the way.

Why do you like to trade with SpiceProp?

What is the most important thing that will help you pass the SpiceProp challenge?

Don't risk too much in each operation. Remember that you have leveraged capital, but you must learn to distribute the daily risk you can lose over your trading days and not over leverage.

What was the key moment in your career as a trader?

When I stopped looking for the perfect strategy and understood that there are many things in trading that are good to know just for cultural reasons, but when it comes to executing your operation, doing a simple analysis is the best, also when I understood that I must be diversified and my career as a trader cannot depend on a single account with a broker. I must have several options because I know that there will be bad days too.

How long have you been trading?

In 2017 I had my first investment experience, unfortunately it was a scam where I lost $80K. At the end of that year I started looking for information about trading, then in 2018 I continued with my process and I can say that I officially started trading in a real account in 2019.

What is your trading plan?

In the long and medium term, cryptocurrencies, ETFs and Stocks... For my daily trading, I choose EURUSD and GBPUSD due to their correlation. If I don't find a clear opportunity, then I look for opportunities in the SP500, all of this in CFDs, but I also look for opportunities in SPY, but that would be in Options.

What quality of your character helps you succeed in the SpiceProp challenge (in three words)?

Patience, Focus and Determination.

What separates the average traders from the best?

I could be very abusive to point out average traders since a trader, no matter how good he is, can lose everything due to his overconfidence, so it is a very thin line to pass from one side to the other. I would say that for success in trading to be long-lasting and sustainable over time, the best thing would be to feed the spirit and put faith in GOD number one so as to have your feet on the ground all the time, ask for wisdom and a lot of humility, so that when success comes, the only thing that changes is a higher standard of living but you remain the same, keeping your values and principles very firm.

Can you tell us about the best piece of advice that has brought you good results in the SpiceProp challenge?

If your daily loss is 5.5% and you risk 1% on each trade, your challenge will only last 5 trades. You should spread that percentage of daily loss over more than 5 trades to have a better chance of passing the challenge.

Could you share with our SpiceProp Trader community book, online resources, people that are significant in your trading development?

Of course, I can share the names of some books that have shaped part of my character and personality: Secrets of the Millionaire Mind, Outsmarting the Devil, The Cow, Race Against Time, Trading in the Zone, Living from Trading, The Bible, especially the verses that talk about finances like Proverbs 13:23…

Should we learn from ourselves or from others?

If you don't learn to know yourself you will never know what you want in life, much less your convictions, if you are always looking to learn from one or another then you will not be authentic you will only have confusions and internal conflicts with what you really want to be in life, but I also can't say that you can't learn a "skill" from someone else, that is valid but that skill will only have value in how you apply it to your life and what you can do with it, you have to know who you are, where you are going and why you do what you do the way you do!
