Successful trading is not just about identifying opportunities. It's also about understanding the market, adapting to changing conditions, and developing the right mindset to act with confidence.

Meet Vitaliy Olkhovych, a trader who successfully passed the SpiceProp Spice 2-Step 50K Challenge. His approach combines a solid theoretical foundation, attention to key market levels, and an emphasis on emotional control.

In this interview, Vitaliy shares the turning point in his trading journey, explains what makes a strong breakout setup, and discusses why understanding yourself can be just as important as understanding the market.

Interview

Why do you like to trade with SpiceProp?

I like SpiceProp because the commissions on assets are reasonable, the trade execution quality is good with no unnecessary slippage, there are lots of instruments to trade, and there's also a EUR account.

What is the most important thing help you to pass SpiceProp challenge?

The two things that matter most to me are God's help and a strong foundation in trading theory. Because I know exactly why I enter every position, I can fully explain my decisions, and that means there's no fear when I click the button.

What was the key moment in your career as a trader?

My turning point was a conversation with a fund manager. He completely changed how I see the market and opened my eyes to many things I hadn't understood before.

What is your trading plan?

My strategy is based on the key levels where big market participants operate.

What quality of your character helps you succeed in SpiceProp challenge (in three words)?

Eliminating unnecessary emotions in trading, waiting for my own setup, and God's help.

What separates the average traders from the best?

The best traders know how to adapt. Every market phase rewards a different approach, and matching your style to the current phase is what sets a top trader apart from an average one.

Can you tell us about the best piece of advice that has brought you good results in SpiceProp challenge?

I'd rather not give the obvious answer of discipline and theory. Both matter, of course, but the most important skill is learning to make peace with yourself and getting your inner voice on your side.

What does your ‘ideal setup’ look like? Describe the three key conditions that must be met for you to open a position.

A clean level that price respects and doesn't repeatedly cross in both directions.

Energy building in the instrument that can drive a breakout of that level.

Compressed volatility on the lower timeframe right before the breakout, which lets me enter with a tight stop.

What hobby, apart from trading, helps you clear your head most effectively after a tough day on the market?

To unwind after a hard day, I either put on an easy-to-watch series or step outside for a walk and some fresh air.

Should we learn from ourselves or from others?

It depends on your resources. If you can afford a mentor, it's absolutely worth learning from one. If not, you can still teach yourself, but be prepared for it to take several years.

Conclusion

Vitaliy's journey highlights an important lesson: successful trading requires more than a strategy. Understanding market behavior, recognizing the right conditions for a trade, and maintaining a balanced mindset all play an essential role.

His perspective on adapting to different market phases and learning to work with your own emotions offers valuable insights for traders at every stage of their development.
